Head of the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry, Nacrology and Medical Psychology

Head of the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry, Nacrology and Medical Psychology from the first days of its foundation to the present day, Doctor of Medicine, full professor, Merited Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Academician of the Department of Mental Health Protection of the Academy of Higher Education of Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Association of Neurologists, Psychiatrists and Narcologists of Ukraine Vice-President of the Ukrainian Stroke Association Tamara S. Mishchenko.

From 1977 to the present time, T. S. Mishchenko works at the State Organization “Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”, going from junior researcher to the head of the Department of Vascular Pathology of the Brain.

In 1982 she defended her thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medicine, and in 1992 - doctoral thesis in the specialty "Nervous diseases". In 2001, she was awarded the title of full professor, and in 2007 - the honorary title "Merited Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine." From 2005 to 2017 she was the chief specialist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in the specialty “Neurology”.

T. S. Mishchenko is a talented scientist who actively develops and introduces new methods of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of neurological diseases into everyday clinical practice. She heads and develops such an important area in clinical medicine as the treatment and prevention of vascular diseases of the brain, the organization of care for patients with this pathology. The area of scientific interests of TS Mishchenko includes the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neurological and mental diseases, vascular diseases of the brain, neurocognitive impairment and pain syndromes in neurology.

T. S. Mishchenko is the author of more than 400 publications, including monographs, reference books, guidelines, patents for invention. She pays great attention to training. Under her leadership 20 candidate and 3 doctoral dissertations were defended. She is a member of the dissertation council for the defense of doctoral and master's theses in neurology, psychiatry and narcology. T. S. Mishchenko regularly speaks at international congresses and conferences. She takes part in work of congresses, symposiums, conferences, round tables in Ukraine and abroad. She actively cooperates with specialists of domestic and foreign scientific institutions and societies. She is the Head of the steering committee of the European Organization for Stroke in Ukraine. She is a member of the European Academy of Neurology and the European Stroke Society. She Participates in the development of orders of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, national standards and protocols for the provision of medical care to patients with neurological disorders. She is the editor of the International Neurological Journal, the Russian-language version of the International Journal STROKE, a member of the editorial boards of 5 Ukrainian specialized medical journals.

For a significant contribution to the development of medicine and the training of highly qualified scientific and medical personnel, T. S. Mishchenko was repeatedly awarded of the certificates of honor from the Presidium of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and Kharkiv Regional State Administration.
