Student self-management and Student council of the School of Medicine started their work since the first days of the organization of student self-management in the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. In the first years of functioning of the student self-management the rector of the University V. S. Bakirov contributed significantly to its development.
The first Dean of students and the Head of the Student council of the School of Medicine as executive and representive body of student self-management of the School of Medicine became Natalia Y. Zakharchenko in 2006. The difficult stage of forming the student self-management as an institution of public government of the University is assosiated with her work.
Because of completion of the course and termination of powers of N. Y. Zakharchenko in 2011 Irina V. Kabachna, who continued the development of student self-management and greatly expanded the sphere of its activities and powers, took the post of Head of the student self-management and student Dean.
From 2013 to 2015 Dean of students Catherine E. Morozova headed Student council of the School of Medicine. The rapid development and essential progress of student self-management in all spheres of activities are associated with her activity.
From 2015 to the middle of 2016, Dean of students Anastasia D. Uslova preside the leadership of the student self-management of the School of Medicine. During this period, student self-management of the School of Medicine became the organizer and the participant of the significant number of events of different nature and scale. The news about this events went far beyond the School of Medicine and University.
From 2016 to the middle of 2018, Dean of students Ksenia B. Romanovska preside the leadership of the student self-management of the School of Medicine.
From 2018 to 2020 Dean of students Anastasiia S. Andriienko headed Student council of the School of Medicine.
Since the first half of 2020 to the present time student self-management of the School of Medicine is headed by Iryna V. Slobodianiuk.
It should be noted, that tasks and powers of student self-management of the School of Medicine and of the University as a whole, has changed significantly since the organization of the Student council of the School of Medicine until the present time. So, with the development of student self-management monitoring compliance with the rules and regulations of the educational process, cultural and charitable activities, organization and implementation of student exchange programs, etc. were added to its task .
