Head of the Department of Dentistry

The head of the Department of Dentistry is Doctor of Medicine, Full Professor Andrey Yuryevich Nikonov, a well-known specialist in the field of dentistry in Ukraine and abroad.

In 1987 he graduated with honors from the Kharkov Medical Institute with a degree in Dentistry. From 1987 to 1989 he studied in clinical residency in the specialty "Orthopedic Dentistry" at the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry of the Kharkov Medical Institute. And since then he worked at the department as a senior laboratory assistant, assistant and associate professor. In 1998 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Complex preparation of teeth and occlusion of patients in the treatment of cast fixed prostheses", and in 2001 he received the title of associate professor. In 2012 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Pathogenetic mechanisms of the formation of metal toxicosis caused by metal dental structures: clinic, diagnosis, treatment and prevention."

In 2018, he was invited to the Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, where he organized and headed the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry No. 2. In 2020 he was awarded the title of Full Professor.

Since May 2021 he has been working at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

Order of the Rector of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University dated July 13, 2021, No. 3501-1/331, the Department of Dentistry of the School of Medicine was established. Since October, 2021, A.Yu. Nikonov has been entrusted with the duties of the head of the Department of Dentistry of Karazin University.

A.Yu. Nikonov is the author of 13 teaching aids and guidelines, 140 scientific papers, 4 articles in journals that are included in foreign scientometric databases and have an impact factor, 32 articles in domestic and foreign professional publications, he is the author of 11 patents and copyright certificates . Under the leadership of A. Yu. Nikonov, 3 international scientific and practical conferences were organized and held.

The sphere of scientific and professional interests of A.Yu. Nikonov at this stage of his activity is the study of the clinic, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of metal toxicosis caused by metal dental structures, restoration of defects in teeth and dentition with orthopedic structures, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the temporomandibular joint.
