History of the Scientific Society of Students, Postgraduates, Doctoral Candidates and Youthful Scientists

Scientific Society of Students, Postgraduates, Doctoral candidates and Young scientists of the School of Medicine at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University was founded in 2002. The Society began its activities as Student Scientific Society on the initiative of the first Dean – Nikolai Yabluchansky, whom SSS owes its development. Adopting the experience of foreign colleagues, the main goal of the newly established society was consolidation of students for developing of student science at university.

The first Head of the Student Scientific Society of the School of Medicine was Pavel Garkaviy, who held this position till 2004. In 2004 the School of Medicine held the first International Conference of Students and Young Scientists “Topical Issues of Modern Medicine”. At the same year Scientific Society of the School of Medicine and scientific societies of five other schools founded Student Scientific Society of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the board of which included representatives of the School of Medicine.

From 2004 to 2008 Kateryna Svidko was the Head of the Student Scientific Society. During these years charity event “Teddy Bear Hospital” was established: students help children get rid of fear of doctors through meetings in kindergartens and childcare rooms.

From 2008 to 2009, Stanislav Panov was the Head of the Student Scientific Society. In 2008 Scientific Society conducted the 5th International Conference of Students and Young Scientists “Topical Issues of Modern Medicine”. From year to year, the conference gathers more and more participants from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other countries.

In 2009-2010 Sergei Kulyavets becomes the Head of Student Scientific Society of the School of Medicine. By this time the Scientific Society of the School of Medicine has made contacts with other scientific societies of medical schools not only in Ukraine but also in other countries.

From 2010 to 2012 Siuzanna Belal was the Head of Student Scientific Society of the School of Medicine. At this time Student Scientific Society gets a rapid development. More and more people participate in International Conference "Topical Issues of Modern Medicine" not only from universities and research institutions of Ukraine, but from many countries abroad as well. Numerous meetings and round tables are organized. Charity visits of orphanages are held.

Since 2012 Eugene Nazarenko is the Head of Student Scientific Society of the School of Medicine. In 2013 the 10th International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Scientists dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the School of Medicine of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University called “Topical Issues of Modern Medicine” was held at the School of Medicine. The conference attracted a record number of participants from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. Also this year Student Scientific Society of the School of Medicine along with representatives of several other medical schools organizes an active cooperation with the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA). Members of SSS of the School of Medicine are one of the founders of the Ukrainian Youth Association of Medical Students.

In 2014 under the new law of Ukraine "About Higher Education" and the provisions of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University on Scientific Society of Students, Postgraduates, Doctoral Students and Young Scientists, school's Scientific Society was reorganized into the Scientific Society of Students, Postgraduates, Doctoral Students and Young Scientists of the School of Medicine at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, thus uniting not only students but all young scientists engaged in school's scientific activities.

Since 2015 Helen Delich is the Head of Student Scientific Society of the School of Medicine. In 2018 Daria Vorona was elected as the Head of Student Scientific Society of the School of Medicine.

Scientific Society continues active cooperation with the Ukrainian Medical Students' Association and IFMSA. Society conducts various social activities aimed at protecting public health. Members of the Scientific Society are involved in many international conferences and scientific events.

Students Scientific Society of the School of Medicine exists for over 10 years. During this time Scientific Society united a different number of students but they were always decent, intelligent, promising, one of the most talented representatives of the School of Medicine.
