In 1996 she graduated from Kharkiv State Medical University with a degree in Medical Prevention and received a diploma of the hygienist, epidemiologist, occupational pathologist.
In 2011 she defended her dissertation on «Hygienic features of specialized training of rural students»and received the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences. In 2012 she was awarded the academic title of associate professor. In 2021 she defended her dissertation on «Substantiation of the conceptual model of hygienic monitoring of group health of students in terms of intensification of the educational process»and received the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.
Regularly improves her professional level in the areas of «Fundamentals of the theory and methods of postgraduate education» and «Topical issues of general hygiene» based on KhMAPO; «Ukrainian language-professional orientation» at the Center for Postgraduate Education of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Confirmed Upper Intermediate Level (B2). Passed an internship in the field of social medicine and health care and hygiene of children and adolescents based on the State Institution «Institute of Health of Children and Adolescents of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine», on communal hygiene based on KhMAPO; international internship «Organization of the educational process, training programs, innovative technologies and scientific work» at the University of Socio-Economic Sciences in Poland (Przeworsk).
Actively carries out research activities as a supervisor of scientific works of students of the medical faculty of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, a permanent member of the jury of the Small Academy of Sciences in the Kharkiv region. The head and responsible executor of SRW of the department on the topics «Hygienic substantiation of optimal models of strategies for adaptation to educational activities of left-handed primary school students», «Development of a system for determining psychosocial functioning and quality of life-related to health in school-age children process», «Determining the characteristics of the somatotype of school-age children in a large industrial city».
She is the author of 121 scientific and methodical works, including 41 articles in professional journals, 10 - in foreign journals and publications indexed in the international scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection, 7 - copyright certificates and patents, 5 - guidelines and information letters NAMS and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Constantly participates in scientific and practical conferences, congresses, congresses of national and international level, introduces research results into the educational process of departments of medical institutions of higher and postgraduate education, institutions of higher education in other fields, as well as in the practical work of treatment and prevention institutions and general secondary education institutions.
Sotnikova-Meleshkina Zhanna is a member of the editorial board of the journal «Actual problems of modern medicine» in specialty 229 – «Public Health», participates in peer-reviewed articles in professional publications of Ukraine and educational publications for applicants for higher medical education.
She was repeatedly awarded diplomas by the rector of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and a diploma of the Kharkiv mayor for a significant contribution to the development of education and science, training of highly qualified medical personnel.
She is a member of the public organization «Ukrainian Association of Public Health».
